Excited to join the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) team!
I am excited to announce that I have joined the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) team at UNESCO as a Senior Policy Analyst.
It has actually been a few weeks already, but between settling in and adapting to the faster pace, it took a while before I found the time and clear head to write an announcement. This does not represent a move away from academia for me; in fact, I have always appreciated how in international educational development there is a lively exchange not only of ideas, but also of people, between the academy and development agencies. It’s a privilege and a pleasure to have the opportunity to both contribute to and benefit from this openness. Indeed, even after this short time I am already convinced that the experience will make me a better researcher. Certainly it has already made me more efficient as a matter of necessity.
With the SDG endeavour out of the starting blocks, but the development and refinement of the associated indicators still ongoing, it’s an exciting time for monitoring educational development. For those of you who know me, you will not be surprised that I do not approach this as an exercise in accounting, but will look for, and try to make visible for others, the stories in the data.
